I completed most of my education in India, where I was born and raised. After my undergraduate education, I went to work as a management trainee for a gear manufacturing firm and concurrently acquired a master’s degree in financial management. It was around this time that my interest in accounting, taxation, and finance kicked into high gear, and I felt compelled to pursue professional studies. I took a break from work to pursue the Chartered Accountant (akin to CPA) and the Chartered Management Accountant pathway. After completing all the requirements, I was admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants (India) and the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants (UK) as an Associate Member. Thereafter, I served in many financial accounting roles until I migrated to the United States of America.
Growing up, my family experienced many financial challenges. I was determined to embark on a career that would enable me to assist my family and others who were financially challenged, in returning to financial stability. As a Chartered Accountant I was able to accomplish my personal mission. However, when I migrated to the United States of America, I discovered that as a CPA (if I got certified) I would be engaged in auditing, taxation, and accounting; personal financial planning required a separate certification. My experience at a young age and my personal mission weighed heavily and became the catalyst for me becoming a Financial Planner/Advisor.
Starting a new career in an environment (U.S.A.) that I was not familiar with was intimidating. I must admit, that at first, I was overcome with feelings of fear and anxiety. I conquered my feelings by reminding myself of my personal mission and passion to help individuals and families (including my own family) achieve their financial goals. From that point onwards, I forged ahead and attained the CFP® certification while raising my two sons and working part-time.
It is rightly said that “the level of our success is limited only by our imagination.” Looking back, I have discovered that many of my fears were unfounded.
Client success and satisfaction is the yardstick by which I measure my success. I strive to achieve the highest standards of client satisfaction because I value my clients, and this focus gives me a deep sense of fulfillment. I am also truly grateful for the Challenge, Balanced Lifestyle, Independence, and Flexibility this career provides.
Believe in yourself. My mantra has always been, “I WILL so I CAN.”
