Well, the short answer is, no.

Many advisors obtain new business through word of mouth from trusted sources such as mutual connections like friends and family. You would best be served using that money in other marketing efforts to see a good ROI.

Reconnect! Use LinkedIn’s Alumni Search to Find Prospective Clients from your Alma Mater

By Lindsey Burda, Vice President of Marketing and Communication Services, Premier Wealth Management, Inc.™ Posted March 28, 2017

Using the alumni search on LinkedIn can put you in touch with your college classmates or any alumni who are currently on LinkedIn. This is a great way to easily connect with people because you already have something in common so breaking the ice, so to speak, is easy! Not only can you simply search alumni but you can filter the results by the years they attended the university/college, the geographical area in which they are located, the industry in which they work, and so on. You can really narrow down who you are looking for and can then reach out. If you have a niche this is an especially great tool for you to try.

Each year FINRA releases a letter that details the list of enforcement priorities they intend to focus on in their examinations.  Below is a list of the highlights from the 2017 letter.  I have tried to single out the items from the letter that are most relevant to the average rep-advisor.  Rep-advisors should be mindful of the added importance FINRA is placing on these specific items.   If there are items on the list that require further explanation or attention, rep-advisors should contact their compliance team for assistance.
